Losing your crojo is a phenomenon that many crochet enthusiasts have to deal with. You always enjoy crocheting, but suddenly you run out of inspiration or you don't like it as much. The crochet hook ends up in the corner and the yarns remain untouched for a long time! Recognizable? To lose your joy in crocheting can be short-lived, but can also last a little longer!

How do you lose your crojo and how do you get it back! In this blog you will find possible causes of losing your crocjo and several tips to get back to it with fresh courage!

Are you an amigurumi crochet pattern designer like me? Even then you can suffer from losing your crojo. This blog will also cover this.

Losing my own crojo!

No, it won't, will it?

I'm going in circles around my crochet work...

No, not today! I don't feel like crocheting!

But it doesn't change. I haven't felt like crocheting for a few days, let's say a few weeks! Don't feel like designing. Oh no, I have lost my crojo! I had heard of it, but never experienced it myself! What should I do?

I'll tell you in a moment how it went with my lost crojo.

Causes of losing your crojo

Losing your crojo can be caused by a variety of reasons.

  • You don't have any inspiration to start a new crochet project.
  • You're busy, so you don't get around to crocheting and lose the desire for it.
  • You get frustrated with the crochet work you're doing because you've made some mistakes.
  • You suddenly don't like crocheting anymore, you lose your motivation. A crochet project seems less fun or challenging.
  • You can't relax when you're crocheting.
  • Something has to be crocheted for someone, so you see it as an obligation, so you can lose your desire to crochet.

But it could also very well be an accumulation of causes.

Remember that losing the desire to crochet is very normal and it happens to everyone from time to time!

The first trick I can give you is to just stop crocheting for a while if you don't like it anymore. Do something else that you do enjoy. It's important not to be too hard yourself and accept that it's okay to take a break.

Tips to get back in the mood for crocheting

Fortunately, not feeling like crocheting isn't the end of the world! With a little motivation and the right tips, you can pick up the crochet hook again and continue crocheting with pleasure.

What is the reason that you have less fun in crocheting? If you can point to one of the causes mentioned above as the reason, then at least you know what the cause is.

  • Look for inspiration: look online or in crochet books or crochet magazines to get new ideas. Take care of your crochet spot. For example, sort your yarn by color. You're sure to find a nice color combination or a forgotten ball of yarn for a fun project.

  • Start again with a small and simple project. Go and buy special new yarn for that, it works wonders!

  • Try something new or different. Have you ever crocheted a potholder with a different technique? Take a look at a designer whose designs appeal to you. Designers show their techniques on their social media channels or YouTube.

  • Try to have fun while crocheting. Vary the colour or crochet with a completely different yarn. Maybe you dare to crochet with fluffy yarn. I have another blog for you with tips on how to crochet with fluffy yarn: Fun with Fluffy Yarn.

  • Do you have a lot of unfinished projects lying around? Set yourself an achievable goal. Reward yourself when you finish a project! Celebrate your successes! Buy yourself a few nice stitch markers!!

  • Sometimes it helps to crochet together with others. This can be done online or at a crochet club. For example, participate in a Crochet Along. Crochet Alongs are online projects where you crochet a crochet project together with others.

Conquered my own crojo loss!

What was the reason that I lost my desire to crochet? That was an accumulation of causes. I was very busy during that period. I got a new front and back yard. A few things had to be arranged for that. I had set myself an unattainable goal when it came to crochet, so I didn't feel like crocheting that much.

So I've been skirting around my crochet and design work for a while. But I haven't been sitting still. I did a lot in the garden. I repainted some garden statues and hangers. I gave a tray and watering can an old and rusty look, I cleaned up the shed on the side of the house and painted it on the outside. So now I have a very nice front and back garden, where it is good to stay when the weather is nice!

But what also helped me is to try something different. For example, I am regularly in contact with a group of super nice designers. One of them, Marja from Pixel 2 Mix, was working on a C2C project. I thought that would be fun to try out. So that's what I started working on. I made a fun design and made 2 cushion covers with the C2C technique, which I had never done before. Something completely different, but with the result that I have regained my desire for crocheting and designing!

What also helped was the holiday. Together with my husband I spent 2 weeks in the Vosges in France. We had lovely weather, we saw and did a lot. But I also brought some crochet with me, you never know!

On this holiday I finished my C2C project and made a French version of my Walkers. The inspiration and the desire came back little by little!

Are you also a designer and you also lost your crojo?

Losing your crojo can be annoying, especially if you're a designer of amigurumi crochet patterns.   Fortunately, there are steps you can take to deal with a it professionally and minimize the impact on your business. Many of the tips are the same as the ones mentioned above, such as identifying the cause, finding inspiration, and setting achievable goals.

Acknowledge losing your crojo and take a break:

It's important to accept that you're experiencing losing your crojo. Don't try to deny it or force it to crochet if you don't feel like it. This will only increase your frustration and stress. It's okay to stop crocheting for a while if you don't like it anymore. Do something else that you do enjoy and that gives you energy. This can help you relax and refresh your mind.

Find out the cause:

By identifying the cause why you don’t like crocheting at the moment, you can deal with it in a more targeted way. Is it a lack of inspiration? Stress due to deadlines? Too much on your plate? By knowing the cause, you can come up with solutions.

Plan your work, set realistic goals:

Make a realistic work plan that takes your lost crojo into account. Schedule moments of rest and relaxation, and be flexible if you find that you can't stick to your schedule. If you do want to make posts on Social Media or write a newsletter instead of crocheting, make those posts or write that newsletter. This way, your work remains visible to others. Celebrate your successes.

Search for inspiration:

Look for new sources of inspiration. Look at the work of other crochet designers, read crochet books and magazines. Also, by talking to other crochet enthusiasts and designers, you can get new ideas. Maybe you'll find your inspiration in taking a course on Canva or trying out a new crochet technique to challenge yourself!

Also, keep blogging about crochet-related topics: This can help you stay motivated and get new ideas.

Stay Positive:

Keep in mind that losing your desire to crochet is temporary. It won't always feel that way. Stay positive and focus on the fun parts of your job.

Conclusion

Losing your desire to crochet is annoying, but certainly not insurmountable. With the tips in this blog, you are guaranteed to get back on top. And don't forget: the most important thing is to have fun crocheting! Just pick up where you left off when you're ready.

PS:

If you're thinking, but I didn't notice that you had lost your crojo at all, that may well be true!

After all, I am a planner, I like to work with lists and work ahead. I had already made and worked out a number of designs before I lost my crojo. Also, I just scheduled my posts on Facebook and Instagram and prepared the Franklin Stories. This way I was visible to everyone and I could gradually get over my crochet dip.
