2024 a special crochet year

2024 was a special crochet year

It was a busy and very special year!

My crochet experiences this year actually started last year. Many of the published patterns were already partly crocheted in 2023, because I had found a turbo needle. That's handy! I suddenly had 7 projects that I was working on! But apparently there was a reason for that, because later in the year I lost my crojo big time!.

Click on the pictures, they will lead you to the patterns.

Handicraft Fair Houten

The crochet year started on my birthday on January 13th!

That Saturday and the Sunday after I was allowed to show my creations from my crochet book Aan de Kust at Bookstore Buitelaar, at the Handicraft Fair in Houten. I had really taken everything from my book! What a fun fair this is!! Nice exhibitors, great visitors! It were 2 fun days!

Tell a story with Stomping in the puddles

This is one of those ideas that was in my head and really had to get out! I really like telling stories and this seemed like a pattern that lends itself very well to that.

Because who owns those clothes that hang on the clothesline there? Why are they hanging on the line, have the clothes just been washed or something else has happened. Oh and look at a caterpillar...

What story comes to mind when you see Stomping in the Puddles?

What a box of chocolate can lead to...

If you look at them, you will see 2 cute hares with perhaps some unusual names: Truffle and Fudge. These names have everything to do with my love for chocolate. And yes, at Easter you also have Easter bunnies made of chocolate.

Do you want to read the whole story behind the 2 Hares? You can do that in my blog: How chocolate can lead to a crochet pattern.

A brave lady

We will hang around Easter and spring with Henny Hen. Henny I crocheted with 2 types of yarn to show what using a different yarn can do to your creation. The difference is no less than 7 cm. Henny Hen is 14cm crocheted with cotton, 21cm with Charming or Stone Washed yarn.

All wild animals!

Do you remember Tiger from last year's Safari Festival of Wolplein?

Of course, I couldn't leave Tiger alone in the wilderness! It was so much fun to design Elephant, Zebra and Giraffe as well! They are also made with a wooden peg doll as an example. Put a rattle in their body and you can give it a nice toy. Crochet several and you can turn it into a fun skittles game.

Knit & Knot Fair Tilburg

Again I was allowed to show my creations from my crochet book Aan de Kust at Bookstore Buitelaar. This time it was in the Koepelhal in Tilburg at the Knit & Knot Fair. The weather was beautiful on April 13, it was a very nice fair, at a very nice location. I have been able to have many nice conversations with acquaintances and strangers!

Making the impossible possible!

That's what is so much fun about designing. You can make whatever you want, even if it seems impossible. You've probably heard of this saying "When Pentecost and Easter fall on 1 day" or the English saying "When pigs fly". You can't do both, but you can if you design it.

My Betty Big proves that anything is possible, as long as you believe in it! Betty has wings and a magic wand! She will make all your dreams come true!

Rock concert!

In April and May there were 2 concerts on my agenda. In May it was Nickelback's and in April it was Slash's, the guitarist of Guns and Roses.

You really order tickets for a concert months in advance, so my brain already started working on a crocheted version of Slash. Slash is such an iconic rock star with his top hat, his hair and guitars. I had to work on that. Before the concert would take place, I had already finished the basics. I had given my Slash alias Rock a pair of jeans, a pair of sneakers and a white t-shirt with a smiley on it. And what do you think Slash was wearing? A pair of sneakers and a white t-shirt with a smiley on it! Especially for me!

Walking amigurumi!

With the help of winding mechanisms, you can make very nice walking dolls!

First came the Lady, Gentleman and Gnome Walkers! Later in the year, the European Walkers and the Sinterklaas party of the Walkers were added!

Super fun little projects in between!

Losing my Crojo

Together with my Walkers I walked into a period of losing my crojo. Just as if my head was a little too full and I became top-heavy and just tumbled forward into a big gap!

Fortunately, that all worked out, although it took a while. Do you want to know all about my crochet dip? In my blog "How do I get my crojo back" you can read all about my findings and find useful tips to get out of a crochet dip.

We are heading towards Autumn and Halloween

I continue to think it's a beautiful time of year! Autumn has those beautiful colours! But I also like to crochet something for Halloween and I didn't have a Bat in my Halloween creations yet, so let's get started with a Bat! It has become Ferry Bat! Ferry absolutely loves delicious candies in those beautiful coloured cellophanes! He loves Halloween!!

For the Autumn Festival of Wolplein, which was held on October 5th, I designed Pumpkin Pip. Pumpkin Pip is an ornamental pumpkin with all kinds of warts and 2 very large eyes! If you change the position of his eyelids, you can create a sultry-looking or a very awake Pumpkin Pip yourself!

Cushion covers with the C2C method

During my summer vacation, I started working with the C2C method. That was the way for me to get my crojo back. I have designed 2 Sea & Beach Cushion Covers with this fun, for me new, technique!

These 2 pillows look really nice on my wooden bench in the garden!

From Beach House to Gingerbread House

Last year I released my Beach House as a Crochet Aid. Really a very nice and handy house where you can store your crochet hooks and hang your stitch markers on. Just before Christmas last year I suddenly realized that you can also make a Gingerbread House out of this. I worked that out right away, but I couldn't get it done in time.

But for this Christmas I was of course very much on time! The Gingerbread House has 2 pastries, in one you can stick your pins. The other is a tray, where you can put your stitch markers.

If you already have the pattern of the Beach Houses, there is a handy addition to transform your Beach House into a Gingerbread House!

KreaDoe

It couldn't stop! For the 3rd time this year I was a guest at Boekhandel Buitelaar and this time on Wednesday October 30 at the KreaDoe. It really remains the most special fair there is! It was nice to be a part of it!

I also went to the KreaDoe with my mother for a day. It remains a fun outing!

Amigurumi Special from crochet Magazine Aan de Haak

In November another Amigurumi Special from Aan de Haak was released. For this edition I collaborated with Charlotte from Design gives Pleasure. She designed a gnome and I made a Leaf especially for the gnome as a hiding place or bag.

Snowman Jon

My last pattern for 2024 is Snowman Jon. This is another fun craft and crochet project, which I love! You take a paper cup, 2 empty nespresso cups, some yarn and a crochet hook and you make the most amazing snowman you can hang!

Let the winter and the snow come now!

A very special year!

Looking back, this was another enormously productive year with nice trips to fairs and an article in Aan de Haak! Although it didn't seem so productive to me during my crochet dip.

Of course I am already working on fun things for next year. The very first event is already in the agenda: The Handwerkbeurs in Houten from 9 to 12 January 2025!

So great of you if you have read my year overview all the way to the end!!

Which pattern of mine is your favorite of 2024? I'm very curious!
